Keep the Old Man Buried: A Daily Crucifixion

Keep the Old Man Buried: A Daily Crucifixion

“Therefore, if anyone is in Messiah, he is a renewed creature – the old matters have passed away, see, all matters have become renewed!” Qorintiyim Bět (2 Corinthians) 5:17, TS2009
The moment we surrendered our lives to YHWH and His Son, our hearts were changed. Something holy took place. The old man—ruled by sin, shame, and worldly desires—was nailed to the stake. We became something entirely new: Spirit-filled, forgiven, set apart.
But here’s what we don’t talk about enough…
The old man doesn’t stay gone unless you keep him buried.
He waits.
Quietly.
Patiently.
Dormant, yet not dead.
He lurks behind wounds you haven’t healed. He creeps back through songs you used to sing, shows you used to binge, thoughts you used to entertain. And if you stop walking in the Spirit... the flesh will gladly take the lead again.
“Knowing this, that our old man was impaled with Him, so that the body of sin might be rendered powerless, to serve sin no longer.”Romiyim (Romans) 6:6, TS2009
We often celebrate being "new creations"—and rightly so. It is a beautiful miracle. But what we forget is that this new life isn’t automatic. It’s not autopilot. It’s not a one-time prayer. It’s a daily choice.
Every day, you must pick up your stake (Luke 9:23).
Every day, you must crucify your flesh.
Every day, you must remember the Spirit that fell on you—and walk it out.
Because if you don’t…
You’ll start becoming the person you thought was dead and gone.
The old you doesn’t need an invitation—just a little negligence.
Miss a few days in the Word.
Trade worship for worldly music.
Stop praying.
Start compromising.
Start numbing.
Start justifying.
And soon, you’ve transformed—not into the image of Messiah, but back into the image of who you were before He called you out of darkness.
The transformation is always happening. The question is: Which direction are you moving?
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the matters of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the matters of the Spirit.” Romiyim (Romans) 8:5, TS2009
The Spirit doesn’t possess you against your will.
You have to walk in Him.
You have to feed Him.
You have to choose Him.
Yeshua didn’t say, “Take up your stake once and you’re good.”
He said: “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his stake daily, and follow Me.” Luqas (Luke) 9:23, TS2009
This isn’t just poetic—it’s prophetic. Because without daily death, there is no daily resurrection. And the Kingdom life we’re called to live isn’t about tweaking the old man—it’s about killing him and walking in newness.
“I have been impaled with Messiah, and I no longer live, but Messiah lives in me. And that which I now live in the flesh I live by belief in the Son of Elohim, who loved me and gave Himself for me.” Galatiyim (Galatians) 2:20, TS2009
You are either living in Messiah
—or you’re slowly reviving the flesh that Messiah died to bury.
That’s the most sobering truth of all.
YHWH doesn’t FORCE obedience. He invites it.
And every sunrise presents a question:
Will you be the new man?
Or will you let the old man live again?
The power is in your hands, but only if your hands are laid down at the feet of the King.
Question and Action:
When was the last time you truly crucified your flesh? Not in theory....but in your habits, your words, your cravings?
Ask YHWH to search you. Ask Him to expose any area where the old man is trying to live again.
Choose one area of your life today to submit under the Spirit's authority. One step. One change. One crucifixion.
You are called, chosen, and transformed.
But transformation is never passive.
It is war.
And the war starts every morning....with YOU!
Let the old man stay buried.
Walk in the resurrection power of Yeshua.
And never forget who you really are.
“Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not accomplish the lust of the flesh.” Galatiyim (Galatians) 5:16, TS2009
More resources:
Modern research confirms what Scripture has declared for thousands of years—lasting transformation requires daily intention, consistent action, and renewed identity.
Here’s how science supports the biblical call to crucify the flesh daily:
Neuroplasticity
Your brain rewires based on repeated behavior. Without intentional renewal, old habits naturally resurface.
(Draganski et al., 2004, Nature)
“...be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romiyim (Romans) 12:2
Relapse and Identity Regression
Studies on addiction recovery show that when people stop living their new identity, the past creeps back in.
(Buckingham et al., Journal of Substance Use, 2013)
Self-Determination Theory
True transformation isn't just about external rules—it’s about internal surrender and Spirit-led living.
(Deci & Ryan, University of Rochester)
“Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not accomplish the lust of the flesh. — Galatiyim (Galatians) 5:16
The Backsliding Effect
Without consistent spiritual discipline, the mind defaults to the past—even if intentions are good.
(Ouellette & Wood, Psychological Bulletin, 1998)
Bottom line?
Your new life in Yah is real—but it requires daily death to the old ways.
Science agrees: if you don’t choose the Spirit, your flesh will choose for you.
Take the Next Step!!!!
If this message stirred something in you—don’t walk away unchanged.
  • Journal your response: What part of the old man still tries to rise up in you?
  • Commit to one action today that crucifies the flesh and invites the Ruach ha’Qodesh to lead.
