The Gift of Sabbath

The Gift of Sabbath

As I sit here on Sabbath and look at all of these things that I have to do—all of the boxes that need to be unpacked, all the tasks waiting to make this house feel like home—I realize it can wait. And what a blessing that is.

Our Father, in His perfect wisdom, gave us this day to pause. To step away from the chaos and the constant doing. He gave us the Sabbath to rest. A complete, holy rest—one that our body needs, our mind needs, our spirit desperately needs.

I’m sitting here, just soaking in the stillness and realizing what a gift it is to have this sacred space in time. My husband works so much, pours out so much of himself, and when he’s home for Sabbath, I see the shalom of YHWH cover him. A peace that reaches into every part of who he is. Not just silence, not just stillness—but true rest. A rest that comes only from YHWH.

Not from man’s striving. Not from checking off to-do lists. But from sitting and reflecting on His Word, on His promises, and simply being in His presence.

“If you do turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on My set-apart day, and shall call the Sabbath ‘a delight,’ the set-apart day of YHWH ‘esteemed,’ and shall esteem it, not doing your own ways, nor finding your own pleasure, nor speaking your own words, then you shall delight yourself in YHWH.”
— Yeshayahu (Isaiah) 58:13–14, TS2009
