What Are You Feeding Your Soul?

What Are You Feeding Your Soul?

The Spiritual & Psychological Impact of Music and Media
There is a truth that exists whether you choose to believe it or not: what you consume, you become. Just like you can't feast daily on junk food and expect a healthy body, you can't constantly absorb music, movies, and messages filled with sadness, anger, lust, and darkness—and expect to walk in peace, joy, and freedom.
Whether it’s background music in your car or a Netflix show playing while you cook, you are agreeing with what you let in.
“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he...”– Mishlĕ (Proverbs) 23:7, TS2009
People often defend what they listen to with, “It’s just a song. I just like the beat.” But spiritually, there’s more going on. When you listen to music filled with hopelessness, rage, bitterness, or lust, you’re not just hearing lyrics—you’re coming into agreement with them. Your soul is aligning with the spirit behind the sound.
There’s a frequency to it, too. Studies in music therapy and neuroscience have shown how music influences brain waves, hormones, and mood. Secular studies back this up—certain music literally increases cortisol (the stress hormone), while other music reduces it and increases dopamine (a feel-good neurotransmitter). The enemy knows this. And YHWH knew it first.
“But whenever the spirit from Elohim came upon Sha’ul, Dawiḏ would take a lyre and play it with his hand. Then Sha’ul would become refreshed and well, and the evil spirit would leave him.”Shemuʼĕl Aleph (1 Samuel) 16:23, TS2009
When Daviḏ played music of worship and purity, the tormenting spirit left. That’s how powerful sound is.
But the opposite is also true—when you constantly engage with dark, godless media, you invite in torment. Depression deepens. Anxiety rises. Lust inflames. Anger festers.
You may not even realize it’s happening, because you’ve gotten used to it. You’ve built a home for these emotions and spirits by staying in agreement with them.
And when someone offers a change—uplifting, joyful worship music, songs about truth and healing—your soul may even reject it, not because it's bad, but because it doesn't align with the darkness you've made familiar.
That’s why some people say, “I don’t like worship music.” It’s not a matter of taste—it’s often spiritual resistance. Because holiness and bitterness don’t mix. Light and darkness don’t share a room.
“Do not be deceived, ‘Evil company corrupts good habits.’”– Qorintiyim Aleph (1 Corinthians) 15:33, TS2009
“The eye is the lamp of the body. If therefore your eye is good, all your body shall be enlightened. But if your eye is evil, all your body shall be darkened...– Mattithyahu (Matthew) 6:22–23, TS2009
You have to retrain your soul. Break agreement with music and media that feed your flesh, and starve your spirit. Choose songs that speak life, shows that build integrity, and moments of silence where YHWH can speak.
That’s the battlefield: not just what you like, but what you’re allowing to shape you.
Freedom doesn’t just come with a smile. It comes with warfare. It comes with choosing what uplifts your spirit when your flesh craves the opposite.
Because what you feed, grows. And what you allow, becomes your atmosphere.
“Set your mind on the matters above, not on the matters on the earth.”– Qolasim (Colossians) 3:2, TS2009
It’s Time to Tune Your Heart!
What are you feeding your soul today—truth or torment?
Let this be the moment you break agreement with darkness and choose what gives life. Start by changing your playlist. Turn off the noise. Open the Word. Let songs of hope and holiness shift your atmosphere.
Guard your gates. Realign your spirit. Choose freedom.
Backed by Scripture:
“Guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”– Mishlĕ (Proverbs) 4:23, TS2009
“Do not be led astray. Evil company corrupts good habits.”– Qorintiyim Aleph (1 Corinthians) 15:33, TS2009
“Let the Word of Messiah dwell in you richly... singing with pleasure in your hearts to the Master.”– Qolasim (Colossians) 3:16, TS2009
