Modest Doesn’t Mean Boring

Modest Doesn’t Mean Boring

It Means Creative.
I’ve never really felt confident in turbans, especially with my round face. But yesterday, I finally found my way to wear one. I styled a French-style turban and left a little hair out around the front… and it made all the difference. That simple change softened the look and helped frame my face in a flattering, natural way. Sometimes, it’s not about what doesn’t work—it’s about learning how to make it work for you.
Let’s talk about this spaghetti strap dress. It’s 100% cotton—light, breathable, and perfect for warm weather. But up top? Definitely not modest enough for my comfort. So, I layered it with a lace cami and threw on a linen button-down, tied at the waist. The transformation? Instant elegance and modesty.
And here's the fun part for my fellow inverted triangles: this dress is a soft A-line, which helps balance my broader shoulders. By tying the button-down at the waist, I created a visual break that highlights my hips and brings balance to my shape. The vertical and diagonal lines from the layering also help elongate and soften the upper body, creating that beautiful harmony.
These camis and lightweight button-downs are absolute staples in my wardrobe. They allow me to wear pieces that otherwise wouldn’t be modest on their own—without sacrificing personal style. Instead of hunting endlessly for the perfect modest cut, I create it with intention.
And those soft cool-toned colors? They make my skin glow. The white, soft blue, and navy lace blend beautifully without overpowering.
These simple staples....camis + button-downs— give me the freedom to style almost any dress modestly. I’m not stuck searching for the perfect sleeves or necklines. I just build them.
Modesty isn’t about hiding. It’s about reflecting the beauty, dignity, and creativity of the One who clothed us in light—YHWH, our Master Designer.
